Residential

Our team specializes in developing custom steel columns, beams, moment frames, stairways, and more for all types of residential projects. We have established relationships with many residential contractors and most of the structural engineers. This allows for a smooth process from the production of shop drawings through fabrication and delivery.

Industrial

We have been providing fabrication support for our large industrial clients for many years. Industrial projects include very detailed work that must meet stringent quality and schedule requirements. We often supply large equipment platforms, pipe supports, embeds, stairways, and grating.

Our Staff

Our General Manager, Leigh Slaugh, completed his internship at PM Engineering, specializing in structural drafting and design in 1975. He owned and operated Powderkeg Development from 1989 to 2016, which provided engineering services to the Utah metal fabrication industry.

Our Shop Superintendent, Mike Israel, started working in the metal fabrication business in the early 1980s. Mike has worked in every position in the fabrication industry, from welder’s helper to shop foreman. In 1996, he joined Magnuson Metals as Shop Superintendent. His responsibilities include scheduling, production management, material procurement, and shipping.

Our Estimator, Mark Magnuson, graduated from the Technical Engineering Institute of Salt Lake City with a degree in Mechanical and Structural Drafting. He has worked in the metal fabrication industry since 1980 and opened Magnuson Metals in 1996.

Magnuson Metals Utah employs welders that are certified to AWS D1.1 Structural Welding – Steel and D1.2 Structural Welding – Aluminum. They are certified in all aspects of GMAW (MIG) welding, from full penetration welds to unlimited thickness. They are re-certified annually as required by the AWS.
